'KNOW THE FILM, BUT MAKE THE OPENING.'

- Decide on your sub-genre and explain why you chose this
- As a group mind-map lots of ideas for your own opening sequence
- Pick 2 ideas and write a 25 word pitch for each one.
- Carry out some audience research and pick the winning idea (speed dating groups)
- Next , explain how your idea follows genre conventions and how it attracts your target audience. Keep your audience research in mind.
Some advice from Pete Fraser, the chief examiner for Media Studies:
'Keep them (the ideas) simple. The more complicated your idea, the more will go wrong. Try to whittle down the pitch so it can be explained in 25 words, like these here or try to summarise it so that if you were explaining it to someone in a lift, you would get through your explanation and they would understand it by the time the lift reached the floor you are going to.'
